ELECTION RESULTS

On the occasion of the local elections in Serbia called for September 19th 2004, the Centre for Free Elections and Democracy – CeSID will realise a project:

"Guide Through New Local Self-Government"

This project will encompass:

  • Realisation of a campaign providing the citizens with information on new bodies and competences of local self-government and appealing upon all voters to turn out in the local elections;
  • Gathering of information on all candidates for councillors, presidents of municipalities and mayors in the entire territory of Serbia;
  • Providing the citizens, media and other interested persons with information, by telephone or on the web site, on innovations in the Law on Local Self-Government, local elections and candidates for councillors, presidents of municipalities and mayors in the entire territory of Serbia;
  • Organise 16 round tables in largest municipalities in Serbia, in which the candidates for mayors and presidents of municipalities will face the citizens, giving them a chance to directly get acquainted with their programmes;
  • Gathering and publicising the information on elected bodies of authorities, both those directly elected by the citizens and those elected indirectly (vice presidents of municipalities, city architects, ombudsman, commissionaire for administration, etc.);
  • Printing of first directory of local self-governments in Serbia;
  • Preparation of expertise on political life on local level in Serbia.
